Monchengladbach grab 3 points in injury time, meanwhile FK Ventspils keep their Europa League chances alive

Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Hannover 96

Borussia Mönchengladbach defect Hannover 96 2-1 giving them a crucial victory in a 2nd half thriller. As Gladbach scored in the last minute, Hannover players are very disappointed to not get anything out of the match. If the match would have finished 1-1, Hannover would be in a Champions League spot.

In the 2nd minute Hannover had a chance as Martin Harnik's shot goes just wide. Gladbach midfielder Thorgan Hazard sets up a oppurtunity for Lars Stindl in the 37th minute outside the box, but he just misses the goal. In the 40th minute, Gladbach have another chance as after their free kick Hannover player Martin Bakalorz is accused of a handball by the Gladbach players and supporters, but the referee waves play on.

Bakalorz has opportunity a minute into the second half, but his shot is blocked by Swiss international Nico Elvedi. French midfielder Michael Cuisance, who is having a fantastic match, gives a pass from a free kick for Matthias Ginter to slot it home in the 67th minute. However Gladbach are only in the lead for four minutes as Austrian forward Martin Harnik headers the ball in goal with Pirmin Schwegler giving the cross to make it all square. The visitors have a huge opportunity to take the lead in the 88th minute, however Harnik misses an empty net and hits the crossbar. In injury time Gladbach are awarded a penalty after Salif Sane fouls in the penalty box. However the Hannover players are furious, and asking for a video review because they say that Sane tackled the ball, not the Gladbach player. After the video review the refs say that it is still a penalty kick. Thorgan Hazard takes the shot, and wins the match for Gladbach.

The win puts Gladbach in 7th place and two points away from a Champions League spot in 4th place. Although Hannover lost the game, they are only two points away for Bayern Munich who are in 2nd place, and it is still very early in the season.

FK Jelgava vs FK Ventspils

As FK Jelgava lost a critical match, Ventspils chances of reaching a Europa League spot are still alive. As FK Jelgava's chances of a Europa League spot are very slim, this will be the first time without them being in the competition since 2013.

Ventspils are the first to attack as Artsiom Vaskou's shot goes straight at Kaspars Ikstens in the 15th minute. In the 32nd minute, FK Ventspils take the lead as Russian forward Alexey Alekseev scores from a free kick to make it 1-0. As that goal was Alekseev's 4th goal of the season, he is the 3rd top scorer for FK Ventspils only behind Tosin Aiyegun and Adeleke Akinyemi who both have six goals.

In the 55th minute, Jelgava have an opportunity of their own, as Alans Siņeļņikovs crosses the  ball to Verners Apiņš, but he misses the target. Ventspils almost doubled the lead in the 78th minute as unmarked Ritvars Rugins shot just misses the goal. Jelgava have another opportunity to get back in the game in the 81st minute as Marcis Ošs recives the ball from a corner kick, however his header misses the target.

FK Jelgava are now 11 points behind 3rd place RFS, and must win all of their four remaining matches to finish in 3rd place. FK Ventspils are now one point behind RFS, however they have played one match more than RFS.
