Liverpool in dream-land as Arsenal fail to turn up
Last Sunday, was a nightmare and a depressing afternoon for Arsenal, however for Liverpool it was a big statement and a crucial early season win.
Both teams needed a win to keep up with Manchester United who are top of the league with 9 points after 3 games. In the 11th minute, Egyptian striker Mohammed Salah almost opened the scoring for Liverpool as Petr Cech saved a one-on-one opportunity. However Liverpool soon got their goal as Gomez gives a beautiful cross to Firmino from the right hand side as the unmarked striker headers it in. Liverpool were controlling the game and continued to create chances for a second goal. Towards the end of the 1st half, Arsenal are trying to create chances to score but are unable to find a shooting opportunity. The Senegalese international Sadio Mane dribbles the ball in the left hand side and scores a magnificent goal, as he shoots the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal to make it 2-0 to Liverpool at halftime.
The 2nd half wasn't much better for the Gunners as Liverpool continued to control the game. Salah had another opportunity to score in the 55th minute only to be denied by Petr Cech. The Liverpool striker was able to redeem himself as the Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin loses control of the ball, to give Salah a golden opportunity to score and slots it home. The party continues in Anfield as Salah crosses the ball to Daniel Sturridge as he headers it in to finish the game off.
This victory for Liverpool puts them in 2nd place with only two points behind the top. Liverpool's next game will be against Manchester City away on September 9th after the international break. This will be a huge game for Liverpool as both teams have huge expectations and some consider Man City as favorites to win the Premier League. This game puts Arsenal in 16th place and are 6 points away from Man United at 1st. Arsenal's next game will be at home to Bournemouth also on September 9. Arsenal will be pleased with only a win as the Gunners need to get back on track.
